In the middle of the World Cup Final in Basel, one name is emblematic of innovation and commitment: Thomas Straumann. The billionaire entrepreneur, known for his companies Straumann and Medartis, not only drives medical developments, but also equestrian sport. He founded the CHI Basel 15 years ago - today it is one of the most prestigious indoor tournaments in the world.
In addition to tournament compensation, Straumann finances quality standards and promotes ethical behavior in equestrian sport. Together with organizations such as R-haltenswert, it is setting new standards in the monitoring of the warm-up arena at this year's World Cup Final in the St. Jakobshalle. The aim is to close gray areas in the interpretation of rules and to establish respectful treatment of horses.
Straumann grew up with horses himself and now runs a riding stable near Lörrach with his two daughters. His youngest daughter Géraldine is a member of the young riders' squad and is aiming to take part in the 2028 Olympic Games. The family is also involved in promoting young talent - for example in the Swiss Equestrian Talents project, which provides comprehensive training for young riders.
In Basel, tradition blends with progress, personal commitment with entrepreneurial vision - and Thomas Straumann remains the driving force behind the continuous development of equestrian sport.
