Boycott by Steve Guerdat and Martin Fuchs: Criticism of the Longines League of Nations 2025

Steve Guerdat and Martin Fuchs have decided not to take part in the Longines League of Nations (LLN) in 2025. Both criticize the fact that traditional tournaments with a strong history and a large audience are not included in the LLN calendar.

The Swiss Equestrian Federation published the statements of the two top riders regarding their boycott. Martin Fuchs explained that the Nations Cups are very important to him. At the same time, he sees it as problematic that tournaments that attract few spectators are being supported while established events are missing. He is at Switzerland's disposal for all other Nations Cups.

Steve Guerdat is similarly critical of the lack of tournaments such as the Swiss Nations Cup in St. Gallen, where there is an 'incomparable' atmosphere.

The Swiss Equestrian Federation has also announced that it will take this decision into account and respect the wishes of the two top athletes.

The Longines League of Nations, which was introduced in 2024 as the official FEI Nations Cup series at 5-star level, will comprise four stops in 2025: Abu Dhabi (UAE), Ocala (USA), Rotterdam (NED) and Gassin/St. Tropez (FRA). The top ten nations in the world, including Switzerland, will collect points to qualify for the final on October 5 in Barcelona (ESP).
