Who is Chloe Reid?

Chloe D. Reid, born July 1, 1996, is a talented American show jumper who has made a name for herself on the international equestrian scene with impressive performances. As part of a horse-loving family, she has already established herself at a young age as one of the most promising riders of her generation.

Chloe Reid's career

Early years and introduction to equestrian sports

Chloe Reid comes from a family with deep roots in equestrian sport. Her grandmother, Charlotte Weber, runs Live Oak Stud, a successful thoroughbred breeding and racing business, while her uncle Chester Weber is a 20-time USEF National Four-in-Hand Champion. Chloe's mother, Juliet Reid, originally had no interest in horses, but supported Chloe's growing passion from the beginning.

Chloe's first experience on a horse was at the age of four on her grandmother's farm in Ocala, Florida. During a Thanksgiving visit, Chester Weber and show jumper Lauren Hough, who was dating Chester at the time, lifted Chloe onto a pony. They then took Chloe to Devon, where she took part in a lead rein competition. This first experience sparked a passion that Chloe never let go of.

The development of Live Oak International

The story of Live Oak International began over three decades ago when Charlotte Weber hosted driving competitions on her plantation in Ocala, Florida. Originally, the driving portion of the event was held on a nearby property, but when a new location for the marathon was sought, Charlotte offered her property. After a few years, the entire event moved to her farm.

Chloe remembers watching one of her Uncle Chester's events about 15 years ago and asking her mother why there were no show jumping competitions on the beautiful course with the good footing. That question marked the beginning of the integration of show jumping into Live Oak International. Chloe's mother, who was working at the Washington International Horse Show at the time, had the necessary experience and the idea took shape.

In our edition "At Home with.." she tells us what makes Live Oak so special and what role she plays at the events. Find out more in the following video:

Today, Chloe and Chester travel the world and take part in the best tournaments. They use these opportunities to gather ideas and improvements for Live Oak International. Chloe is particularly interested in integrating European elements into the tournament. As such, the Live Oak International schedule is geared more towards European tournaments: From Friday through Sunday, there is high-level sport, which allows participants to enjoy the beginning of the week at home and participate in a high-level tournament on the weekend.

Team USA and international successes

In 2012, Chloe made history when she became the youngest person ever to represent the US team in international show jumping competitions at the age of just 15. Since then, she has been selected for the US team multiple times and competed in prestigious competitions such as Aachen, Rome, Wellington, Falsterbo, Barcelona and Sopot. Chloe is particularly proud to have ridden in Sopot in 2017 on the same team as Lauren Hough, whom she once infected with the horse virus as a child, and to have won the Nations Cup.

Chloe attributes a large part of her success to Codarco, as he gave her the confidence to make it to the big stage. With him, she celebrated her first major successes in the USA and internationally.

Outstanding horses and special partnerships

One of the most important horses in Chloe Reid's career was the stallion Codarco, whom she rode from the age of eight. Together with Codarco, Chloe grew into the bigger classes of international show jumping and managed to compete against the best riders in the world. Sadly, Codarco passed away in 2018 at the age of just 11 from an aggressive cancer - a loss that Chloe describes as the hardest of her career.

Another important horse in Chloe's career is Crossover, a horse she has ridden since he was six years old. With Crossover, Chloe has been successful in several five-star competitions, and she describes him as one of her best horses.
In the following video, the show jumper tells us which horses Chloe considers to be her best. Here we visited the show jumper in the USA:

Future and goals

Chloe Reid is determined to continue her career in international show jumping and represent the USA at major championships. She plans to continue training with the Beerbaums in Germany and developing young horses. Her goal is to become a consistent team rider and continue to improve Live Oak International.

Chloe also has personal goals: She dreams of taking part in the "Jump and Drive" competition in Aachen together with her uncle Chester Weber, in which a show jumper jumps onto the carriage after completing a course in order to tackle an obstacle course together with the driver.

Conclusion

Chloe Reid is a remarkable show jumper who has already achieved considerable success despite her young age. Her passion for the sport, her commitment to her academic training and her dedication to constantly developing herself make her a promising figure in international equestrian sport. With her determination and talent, it is certain that she will celebrate many more successes in the future.
