Who is Christian Ahlmann?

Christian Ahlmann, born on December 17, 1974 in Marl, North Rhine-Westphalia, is one of the most successful and well-known German show jumpers. Even at a young age, he was regarded as a show jumping prodigy who attracted attention with his exceptional talent and rapid success. Over the course of his impressive career, he has won numerous major titles and established himself as a permanent fixture on the biggest stages of international show jumping.

Christian Ahlmann's career

Early years and the beginning of passion

Ahlmann's original passion was soccer, but at the age of eleven he discovered his love of riding. Although he started riding relatively late, he quickly showed exceptional talent. Just one year after his first contact with equestrian sport, he won his first advanced (S) level show jumping competition - an impressive achievement for such a young rider.

At the age of just 14, Ahlmann was awarded the Golden Riding Badge after winning ten competitions in the advanced class. This early success confirmed that Ahlmann had exceptional potential in show jumping.

Successful junior and young rider time

Christian Ahlmann dominated the European Championships during his time as a junior and young rider. He won a total of five gold medals, which earned him the reputation of a prodigy of German show jumping. These successes laid the foundation for his later international career and made him one of the most promising talents in German equestrian sport.

Breakthrough with the seniors

Ahlmann's big breakthrough on the international stage came in 2003, when he competed in the senior championships for the first time. With the gray Cöster, a gelding that would accompany him for many years, he won the gold medal both individually and with the team at the European Championships in Donaueschingen. These successes made him a star in the equestrian world overnight and opened the doors to the biggest tournaments in the world for him.

A year later, at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Ahlmann confirmed his status as a world-class rider when he won the bronze medal with the German team. This was his first major success at a global tournament and a significant milestone in his career.

Rise to the top of the world with Taloubet Z

One of the most successful partnerships in Ahlmann's career began with Taloubet Z in 2010. The talented stallion, who comes from the Belgian stud farm Zangersheide, developed into one of the best show jumpers in the world under Ahlmann's guidance. In 2011, the pair crowned their partnership with victory in the World Cup Final in Leipzig - a highlight of Ahlmann's career.

Ahlmann collected numerous other successes with Taloubet Z, including the silver medal with the team at the 2015 European Championships in Aachen and the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
