The successful Oldenburg stallion Destano OLD(Desperados x Brentano II) has ended his sporting career and was officially retired from the sport yesterday. He last shone in 2024 with Simone Pearce (AUS) in the CDI4* Grand Prix Special of the Hamburg Dressage Derby 2024, the CHIO Aachen and the Olympic Games in Paris.
Bred by Heinrich Gießelmann and owned by Gestüt Sprehe, Destano OLD embodies the success of his sire's bloodline via Olympic horse and long-standing German squad member Desperados OLD, De Niro and Donnerhall. On his dam's side, he goes back to the Hanoverian dam line 749/Eckernförde II, from which famous stallions such as Argentan I, Don Indigo and Hochfein originate.
As a three- and four-year-old, Destano OLD passed the 30- and 70-day tests in Schliekau with top marks for character, willingness to perform and trot. As the main premium winner at the Oldenburg Stallion Days in Vechta in 2011 and son of Desperados OLD, who was highly successful at the time, he was in high demand for breeding and has produced 30 licensed sons and premium stallions to date. Denoix, who was one of the top prices at the 2016 Oldenburg Elite Auction at €300,000 and is now a member of the German championship squad under Katharina Hemmer , certainly deserves special mention.
Destano OLD was highly successful in the sport himself with two participations in the Olympic Games under Simone Pearce and several victories at international level. 81.385% is his best performance in the FEI Dressage World Cup in Pilisjászfalu in June 2021, in which he received the highest score of 10.0 for the strong walk.
