Paul Schockemöhle celebrates his 80th birthday on March 22, 2025. The former world-class rider from Mühlen has shaped international show jumping like no other - both in the show jumping ring and as a breeder, stallion owner and entrepreneur.

Schockemöhle made history with the Hanoverian gelding Deister when he became European Champion three times in a row (1981-1985) and won the title of German Champion five times. Together with the German team, he won Olympic bronze in 1984 and was runner-up at the World Championships in 1982. He had already won Olympic silver with the team in 1976 with Agent, while his brother Alwin won individual gold. For over twelve years, "PS" was one of the ten best show jumpers in the world.

After his active career, Schockemöhle expanded his Lewitz stud farm in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern into the largest private horse breeding facility in Europe. His horses are internationally successful and he opened up markets in Asia at an early stage. Many top riders, including Ludger Beerbaum and Otto Becker, were trained at his stables.

Schockemöhle also left his mark as a show organizer. He initiated the Riders Tour, which was long regarded as the most important show jumping series in Germany, as well as renowned tournaments such as the German Classics in Hanover. His life's work continues to shape international equestrian sport to this day.
