The twelve-year-old gelding Definite Dilemma (Definite Article x Indian Danehill) caused a sensation in the point-to-point race at Parham, West Sussex. Under the experienced rider Phil York, he won the Mixed Open at the Crawley & Horsham Meeting on March 29 - it was York's 408th career success. Trainer Ella Gillings took over the gelding four years ago for just one pound from National Hunt rider Niall Houlihan after he had to take a break due to injury.
Despite suboptimal preparation - Gillings is currently five months pregnant and trains on a sheep farm without much equipment - the horse was in top form. Although the ground was drier than usual, the course benefited from good watering. The victory was his third in four starts this season. Gillings emphasized how well rider and horse harmonize.
