Jonny Hilberath passed away suddenly on the morning of March 5, 2025 at the age of 69. The internationally esteemed trainer and long-time supporter of German dressage influenced generations of riders and horses with his in-depth knowledge and keen sense of the art of riding.

Following the sudden death of national coach Holger Schmezer, Hilberath took over responsibility as national coach six months before the 2012 Olympic Games in London, before returning to his training business in Lower Saxony after the Games. As discipline coach and later co-national coach of the German dressage riders, he remained an important pillar for the sport.

In addition to his successful career as a trainer and rider, Hilberath ran a prestigious training stable in Abbendorf. Active in top-class sport himself, he achieved Grand Prix placings and a bronze medal at the German Championships in 2007.

Our deepest sympathy goes to his family and all his loved ones.
