24-year-old Irish jockey Michael O'Sullivan has died as a result of serious injuries sustained in a fall at Thurles racecourse in County Tipperary on February 6. After 10 days in an induced coma, O'Sullivan passed away on February 16 in the presence of his family, who decided to donate his organs to help others. 

O'Sullivan began his career in point-to-point sport and was named Ireland's best U21 rider in 2019. Since his first race win in 2018, he has won a total of 95 races in Ireland, Great Britain and France. In 2023, he celebrated great success with victories in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle and the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival and became Irish Champion Conditional in the same year.
