The Oldenburg horse breeding community bids farewell to three outstanding personalities: Hermann Kuck, Ewald Grotelüschen and Wilfried Sandmann have passed away.
Hermann Kuck from Rastede passed away on February 15 at the age of 76 after a tragic accident. He bred Nobel Prince OLD (Noble Roi xx x Ramiro's Son I), who celebrated significant successes under Sandra Auffarth, including third place with the German team at the 2007 European Championships in Blair Castle. He has also bred numerous state premium mares and the elite mare Rominarda (Dinard L x Ramiro's Son I). She produced the internationally successful advanced (S) level show jumpers Candela (Cornet Obolensky x Dinard L) and Coryphae (Cornet Obolensky x Dinard L), as well as the Bundeschampionat finalist Chancy K (Cristallo I x Dinard L).
Ewald Grotelüschen from Wardenburg passed away on February 28 at the age of 89. He was a respected breeder of the Elfenblume line, which produced numerous top auction horses, licensed stallions and successful sport horses. One particular example is the colt Independent (Asgard's Ibiza x De Niro), which fetched the top price at the Oldenburg Elite Foal Auction for 154,000 euros. His significant breeding successes include the stallions Depardieu (De Niro x Luciano), Florion (Florencio I x Sion) and Franzissimo (Franziskus x Belissimo NRW).
Wilfried Sandmann from Hüven passed away on March 3 at the age of just 65. He was a passionate show jumper breeder whose breeding produced numerous 1.60 m show jumpers. His most successful offspring include the World Cup winner Greya (Colestus x Contender) under Kent Farrington (USA) and the Olympic participant Contago (Cornet Obolensky x Cassini II) with Eugenio Garza Perez (Mexico). He has also repeatedly produced outstanding horses for the Vechta auction site.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to the families and loved ones.
