Olympic result corrected: France moves up to fifth place
Belgium loses fifth place in team competition due to unintentional doping case
Contents
The Belgian dressage team has lost its fifth place at the Olympic Games in Paris and has dropped to last place in the team ranking. The reason for this is the doping case of Domien Michiels, whose results were subsequently removed from the rankings. France benefits from this correction and moves up to fifth place.
Originally, the Belgian team was not disqualified despite Michiels' positive test. The rider tested positive for dorzolamide, but was able to prove that the substance entered his body unintentionally through the administration of eye drops to his dog. The International Testing Agency (ITA) therefore decided to remove only his individual results without imposing a ban. Nevertheless, the absence of his results meant that Belgium only had two valid scores, which lowered the overall team result.
Due to the subsequent adjustment of the ranking, France is now in fifth place, followed by Sweden in sixth. Finland is now seventh, Austria eighth, Australia ninth and Belgium slips to tenth place.
