Robin Naeve changes sporting nationality - will play for Sweden in future

Peder Fredricson's question in Gothenburg was the catalyst for a far-reaching decision

Robin Naeve, 27 years old and at home in Schleswig-Holstein, will be riding under the Swedish flag in future. The change was triggered by a personal conversation with Swedish show jumping star Peder Fredricson during the World Cup tournament in Gothenburg. Naeve had impressed there with faultless rides and aroused the interest of the Swedish team. As his mother comes from Sweden and he has both German and Swedish citizenship, the decision was an obvious one for him.

After a meeting with the Swedish national coach Henrik Ankarcrona, the decision was made: Naeve will compete for Sweden in the future. Once the mandatory qualifying period has expired, he will also be eligible to compete in Nations Cups from 2026. Father Jörg Naeve, himself a successful show jumper and tournament organizer with a riding facility in Bovenau, 20 kilometers west of Kiel, sees the change in sporting terms - father and son may face each other in different teams in future.
