Australian Grand Prix rider William Matthew broke his ankle and had to undergo surgery. He wrote on Instagram: "Shit happens, forgot how unpredictable horses can be and wasn't careful enough. Sadly yesterday I wasn't quick enough and got kicked in the ankle." Nevertheless, he hopes to be back in the saddle soon.

Matthew worked as a rider at Isabell Werth 's stables for over five years before announcing his independence in October 2024. During his time as a rider at Werth Stables, he celebrated successes with Belantis I (Benetton Dream FRH x Exposé) and Freischuetz (Foundation x Del Martino), among others. He qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris with Mysterious Star (Metall x Fürst Heinrich) and finished 24th in the Grand Prix Spécial. After the Games, he left Werth's stables and set up his own business at Gut Kostenschlag together with his partner, Swedish rider Ellen Hedbys.
