On March 10, 2025, the Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaft um das Pferd e.V. (GWP) awarded prizes for the best scientific work on horses as part of the EQUITANA exhibitor evening. The award-winning bachelor's, master's and dissertation theses shed light on practical topics that can have a lasting impact on the equine industry.
Hannah Zirkel from Nürtingen-Geislingen University secured victory in the Bachelor's thesis category with her guide to social media activities for riding clubs. In the Master's category, Elena Karthäuser (Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences) impressed the judges with her analysis of the scale of fees for veterinarians (GOT) and its impact on horsekeeping. Dr. Fabienne Eichler from the Free University of Berlin won the dissertation category with her research on the oral administration of cannabidiol in horses and its relevance for doping controls.
In addition to the winners, other outstanding works were awarded prizes, for example on digitalization in horse breeding, human anticipation in the horse-human relationship or the use of digital technologies to improve animal welfare. The event, supported by Uelzener Versicherung, Equovis, HIT, FN-Verlag and the Personal Members of the FN, underlines the importance of scientific findings for the further development of the equine industry.
